Dr Alice Beardmore-Gray, on behalf of the Global PrAKI Consortium, presented our work at the ALIGN International Maternal and Newborn Health Conference in Nairobi this March.
This event brought together academics, clinicians, humanitarian workers, non-governmental organisations and policymakers with one clear aim: a world where no woman dies giving life, and every newborn enters it with an equal chance to thrive.
During the conference’s Share Fair session, we showcased our development of a novel PrAKI toolkit aimed at prevention, detection, and management of PrAKI, with a particular focus on incorporating kidney care in emergency obstetric bundles for post-partum haemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, and sepsis – the leading causes of PrAKI, and key drivers of maternal mortality in low and middle-income countries.
The session attracted a diverse audience of midwives, obstetricians, public health specialists, and physicians from around the world. The discussions sparked new connections and collaborations, reinforcing the Consortium’s commitment to advancing maternal and newborn health through innovation and partnership.
